Homecoming This Weekend Includes Concert, Games and Tailgate Natalie Stovall is the featured entertainer for the inaugural kick-off concert  tonight. To open the 2011 Homecoming weekend, singer Natalie Stovall will be performing Friday, February 11, 7 p.m. on the Student Activity Center (SAC) patio, main campus. The concert is free, no reservations are required, and faculty and staff are invited. You are also invited to enjoy the Lady Mariners softball game against Aiken Tech Saturday, February 12, at 11 a.m. and a 12:30 p.m. tailgating party before basketball tips off at 3 p.m. in the Coffin Gymnasium. The men's varsity squad plays the Gordon College Highlanders in the afternoon conference game.  Inaugural Southern Storyteller Season Concludes with Folksinger Kate Campbell Next Thursday  Kate Campbell The final Storyteller in the 2010-2011 series is folksinger/songwriter Kate Campbell on February 17, 5:30 p.m., at the Southeast Georgia Conference Center. Save the Day is her most recent release (October 2008) of the 12 CDs she has recorded since her 1995 debut with Songs from the Levee. Her vocal range and consistency are frequently compared to Emmy Lou Harris, while her story telling is linked to the Southern literary tradition of Eudora Welty, William Faulkner and Flannery O'Connor. New Dean of Nursing Arrives on Campus and Vice President of Finance Announced Patricia Kraft, EdD, APRN, MSN, BC-FNP, joined the leadership team of the College of Coastal Georgia earlier this month as the Southeast Georgia Health System Distinguished Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences and Professor of Nursing. "Coastal Georgia is in a dynamic state of growth and community engagement," Dean Kraft enthuses. "The mission of this college is aligned with my personal and professional goals and vision. The energy and excitement being generated on this campus from administrators and faculty to students and staff is alive and palpable. I want to be a part of the Dreams in Action momentum. In a campus announcement February 7, President Hepburn confirmed the appointment of Jeffrey H. Preston as Vice President for Business Affairs, effective April 1.  Preston will assume the role of Chief Business Officer (CBO) when Tom Saunders transitions to his new, requested role as Assistant Vice President for Budget and Finance. Preston is currently Assistant Vice President for Finance and Administration as well as Comptroller. He has been with the College of Coastal Georgia for nearly twenty years.  Campus Hosts Events for Black History Month A touring art exhibit, a searing one-man play, and a lecture about "Gatsby, the Harlem Renaissance and Dreams Deferred"  by a noted expert cap a series of campus cultural events celebrating February as Black History Month. College Partners in Teacher Quality Grant for Local K-8 Teachers  Coastal Georgia and the University of West Georgia are collaborating in a project to improve interdisciplinary science instruction through student-centered service-learning projects. Dr. Timothy Goodale, Assistant Professor of Education for the College's School of Education and Teacher Preparation, received word last week the project was awarded $33,227 in funding through the U.S. Department of Education "Improving Teacher Quality Higher Education" grant program administered by the University of Georgia's College of Education. Dr. Goodale and Dr. Michael Hazelkorn, Professor of Special Education, Department of Collaborative Support and Intervention, University of West Georgia, jointly applied for the grant in November 2010 and will serve as project directors. Other participating organizations include the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary, Little St. Simons Island, and Glynn County schools.  To read more, click here.
