donations. The books will go to a local after-school literacy program
and the food will go to Second Harvest. In addition

with a copyright date of five years or less may be donated for
distribution by Better World Books to

School
of Business and Public Affairs to Release First Issue of the Southeast
Georgia Coastal Monitor This Week
For BBA student Jessin Oueslati, this is the final
project of his senior year. For the Southeast Georgia (SEGA) Joint
Development Authority, this is the beginning of much-needed research
to help promote viability of economic development for the six-county region
of Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Glynn, McIntosh, and Wayne.
Scheduled for release at the end of April, the inaugural
issue of Southeast Georgia Coastal Monitor will serve as an
introduction to the economy of the southeast Georgia coast, according
to Dr. Don Mathews, Professor of Economics. "The text is general
and the data cover the past 10 years. The summer issue will provide
an overview of the industrial makeup of the region. Once that core
information is presented, our research will turn to specific
industries."
The SEGA Joint Development Authority commissioned the
series of quarterly economic monitoring reports. "The Monitor
will be available online in .pdf form. The annual summary, which
will come out in January, may also be available in print. That is
still to be determined," Dr. Mathews said.
The inaugural issue was researched and authored by a
team of three: Jessin Oueslati, an undergraduate research assistant
in the School of Business and Public Affairs, Dr. Craig Fleisher,
Dean of the School, and Dr. Mathews.
"The Monitor is another example of how our
business courses, experiential learning focus, and community
engagement come together to enhance regional economic development
while enriching our students' learning experience and engaging both
students and faculty in applied research and service
activities," Dr. Fleisher concluded.

Spring 2011 Student Art Show Closes Friday
The annual student
art exhibit continues on display in the lobby of the Southeast
Georgia Conference Center through Friday, April 29.
"The show is a selection of highlights from student
work over the last academic year," Jeff Lemieux, Assistant
Professor of Art, explained. "We have an amazing level of
student talent in our area and our goal is to put some of it on
display. Due to limited resources, we're not showing everything
that deserves showing, but we hope the College community can come and
enjoy what we can set out."
The exhibit hours are noon-4 p.m. daily.

Foundation Aunnual Fund Campaign Update
As of April 27, annual fund campaign efforts had
achieved 48% of the 2011 goal. Shooting for $2,155,000, the
Foundation has raised $1,039,843 in the first four months of
the campaign year.
According to the Advancement Office analysis, the
Alumni Scholarship challenge is at 80.9% of goal ($4,045 towards
a goal of $5,000), the community campaign is at 31.8% of goal
($114,751 towards a goal of $360,000) and major gifts has achieved
73.9% of goal ($887,925 towards a goal of $1.2 million.)
The 2011 goal for faculty and staff participation is
$30,000. According to the analysis, 9.2% ($2,782) has been collected
to date.

New
Student Governmant Association Officers for 2011-2012 Elected by
Student Body

Almost 200 students
participated in the election to select new SGA officers for the
coming school year, according to the Office of Student Life. When the
votes were tallied, Lindsey Little was elected President; Carrie
Gossett was re-elected Vice President, but representing the main
campus rather than the Camden Center; Thuydy Nguyen will be
the new Vice President, Camden Center; and Sandra Crum will serve as
Secretary.
"As president, my
goal is to increase club involvement in SGA," Little said.
"I'd like to see more coordination between clubs, the
Programming Board, and SGA for campus activities. Communication is
key to any organization."
Little believes SGA
should serve as the student gateway to College administration.
"Students need to know the facts - not the rumors - to make
informed opinions."

Lakeside Village Residence Hall Director and
Assistants Named

Coastal Georgia Resident Assistants
|
Coastal Georgia is another step closer to opening
the doors of the first student residence hall on campus. Amber
Sutor will serve as full-time director, living in the building and
supervising the student resident assistants, according to Dr. Michael
Butcher, Director of Residence Life and Housing.
"Amber will join us as beginning June 1," Dr.
Butcher said. "She is coming from Rider University in
Lawrenceville, New Jersey. She received her Master's degree in
College Student Affairs from the University of South Florida.
She has five years of experience as a residence hall director
and will be an excellent addition to the Office of Residence Life and
Housing team."
Nine students have been selected to serve as resident
assistants: Hillary Caton, Laura Griggs, Lindsey Little, Tiffany
Curry, Tajhonika Nathaniel, Tyrone Bacon, Dion Edwards, Gustavo
Ruiz-Abad, and Gregory Simpson.
In explaining their role, Dr. Butcher noted,
"The Resident Assistants are integral members of the
Lakeside Village team. They help build community and student
interaction while promoting an academically supportive
environment. The RAs will provide academic and social
programming; create an inclusive and welcoming environment; encourage
residents to approach one another with concerns; help ensure a safe
and secure environment; and be approachable and accessible."

State Attorney General Keynote Speaker for Law Day

In partnership with the Brunswick-Glynn County Bar
Association, the College will host the 2011 Law Week Lecture
Wednesday, May 4, 1 p.m., in the Southeast Georgia Conference
Center. The keynote speaker is Georgia Attorney General
Samuel S. Olens presenting "The Legacy of John Adams: From
Boston to Guantanamo."
During the program, the Liberty Bell Award will be
presented to Elouise Clinch, the Private Bar Coordinator for the
Brunswick and Waycross offices of Georgia Legal Services.
